Blossac Theatre - Chatellerault
One of the few Italian style theatre in France, Blossac theatre located in Chatellerault was built in the mid 19th century. The buildling was included into the National protected monuments inventory in 2009 (n°ISMH : PA00105405). Blueprints were imagined by Renaudet and Delage (respectively an architect and entrepreneur), using walls and wooden vaults from the former Minimes Chapel.
This building combines all the specific Italian theatre features : a horseshoe shaped main room providing outstanding acoustics, thanks to high ceilings and circled architecture. The different levels of boxes reflect the social hierarchy then. The renovation project gave the Theatre a fresh start and blends history with modern times.
The refurbishment project was conducted by Mr. Arnaud de Saint Jouan, Head Architect for Historical Monuments. Teams at Maison Lucien Gau carried out the rebirth of a crystal and pendant chandelier, but also re-created lanterns, wall lamps for the aisles and for the main hall.
